In late "75, early 76, (cant remember exactly) i went to see a very early version of the Sex Pistols, they were supporting a "Pub Rock" band called the 101ers, at the Elgin Pub, on Elgin Avenue, London. I stood and watched the Pistols next to this guy, we were both jumping around a bit and just really having a laugh, i then said, "These are realy s***", he turned to me and said "No mate, these are the future", i then went to the bar for some drinks, while the Pistols vacated the stage, i returned to my new friend with the drinks, we shared a smoke, and he said, "Thanks for the drink, im on next, so ill see you later", and off he went. Approx 20 mins later this band called the 101ers appeared on stage, fronted by Woody Mellor, the young dude who had just shared a smoke and had a drink with me. When they had finished their set Woody came over to me and asked, "well, was it worth the trip", and i said, "better than those other fu**ers", he laughed and asked my name, and introduced himself to me as Jonny Mellor. We got a few more drinks in, and parted company. A few months later he phoned me asking me to go down to the Elgin again, saying "Gaz youve gotta come and see my new band mate, we sound great", i asked, so whats your bands name then, the 102ers, he laughed and said "No mate, we are Clash".
Ive never forgot those days, i only wish i could have afforded a camera.

Wow- drinkin' and smokin' with Woody, that's awesome. I recently heard Chaos In New York and 16 Tons. They both have great songlists and sound good. Also, Joe & The Mescaleros - Action Town Hall (or Acton maybe?) that is incredible. Mick gets up to play a few, Joe is pretty funny.
