I saw The Baader-Meinhof Complex today (13/9/09). They are the ones who also went by Red Army Faction--yes the same RAF that appears on one of Mick's armbands and had the same logo as appeared on one of Joe's t-shirts. The film is very good and I highly recommend it. One of the great things about the film is that it basically presents the facts as they are and let's you draw your own conclusions. It provides plenty of fodder for discussion. I do feel obligated to warn that the violence that is presented is realistic and far from the glamourized versions that appear in mainstream Hollywood films. There is some nudity in the film as well.
I will say this though. While I respected the politics they had when they formed up and even agreed with most of them, I could never get behind the murder, kidnapping, or hostage taking that would come to mark the group. I had little sympathy for them by the end of the film. Of course, I had little sypathy for them back in the '70s as well. The bombings were horrifying and left many dead or permanently injured. I personally feel that there are better ways of getting your point across. Although I can understand losing patience with the right wing and/or the authorities when all they do is commit violent acts towards you.
