December 14th 2009 marks the 30th anniversary of London Calling, one of the most seminal albums of all time. On December 14th 1979 The Clash recorded London Calling at Wessex Studios in London, UK. Upon release the album received rave reviews across the board, and Rolling Stone placed the album at number 8 in their list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

The iconic album cover features a Pennie Smith photograph of Paul Simonon smashing his Fender precision bass on the stage of The Palladium in New York during their 1979 US tour. In 2002 Q magazine named this photograph the greatest rock and roll photograph of all time.

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of London Calling, on December 14th 2009 Sony Music will release a vinyl replica edition of the album, featuring the original album on CD and a new DVD in vinyl replica packaging. The DVD includes a Don Letts produced documentary 'The Last Testament: The Making Of London Calling' featuring interviews with Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon and Topper Headon, plus promo videos and footage of The Clash recording London Calling at Wessex Studios.

I'm a fan (and you should be too) because... The Clash were and still are the only band to be completely relevent to the times they were living in. Musically they were powerfull and to the point (the clash, give em enough rope), totaly confident in their own ability to embrace their wide range of influences and use them to craft some of the most timeless, much copied but never equalled, songs in rock music (london calling), and defiently brave in their development and experementation (sandinista!).
